On May 7 at the 2018 American Alliance of Museum’s Annual Conference, GEMM joined AAM Director of Diversity Dr. Nicole Ivy, the Diversity Professional Network Committee, Museums and Race, and others at AAM’s Open Forum on Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI). Each group made a brief presentation about its goals and work. Participants then moved from table to table, moving in and out of conversations. At the GEMM table participants spoke about the pay gap, salary negotiations, and the rigors of combining parenthood with work. Participants discussed common problems related to gender equity, including how to combat low salaries in the field and how to advise the next generation of museum professionals. Hopefully, the participants in these conversations left with a renewed sense of confidence and support.
